How to file your UKZN application
The University of KwaZulu-Natal is one of the universities in South Africa that does not have application closing dates for Postgraduates. This means you can apply for postgraduate courses anytime.
Since you must apply before you check your UKZN application status, I will go ahead and briefly explain the application process.
The University of Kwazulu-Natal has a two-way application process. This means you can apply online or offline(Paper application).
Before you apply, you should make sure you check the UKZN Prospectus to know if everything you want is available. Make sure you also check the application requirements before you proceed.
UKZN Online Application
The online application is only available to Postgraduate applicants on the UKZN website. However, new applicants must only use the CAO online application method or simply use the paper application.
Since this is an online application, your first major requirement should be an active internet connection, phone number, and email address.
You should also get a scanned copy of the following documents.
- Your higher education certificates
- Copy of ID Card or Passport.
If you have all these items ready, simply go to the application page and start filling out the form.
Fill out all the forms, upload your documents and submit.
If you are a completely new applicant, make sure you use the CAO online application method.
Paper application
This is where you submit the application to the university in person or through traditional post mail.
Both Postgraduates and Undergraduates can use this method. Since Undergraduates don’t have an online application form on the UKZN website, this is a very convenient way to file the application.
- You must make a copy of your high educational certificate
- Copy of ID Card or Passport.
- You will pay an application fee of R210. You must pay this amount into UKZN’s application bank account. Click this link and scroll down the page to see bank details. You will also be able to see this banking information at the bottom of the application form.
- Add a copy of the banking receipt to your application documents
- Then you Download the Application Form. You can also request the application form by calling this number: 031 260 2212

UKZN accommodation application
Accommodation is one of the key points applications look at, especially international applications. The University of KwaZulu-Natal has accommodations available for students. All five campuses have students residents hence making you get access to the campus right from your residence.
The UKZN Department of Student Residence Affairs (DSRA) handles all residence-related issues. They are also the same department you have to consult if you want accommodation.
There are different types of residence. On-campus residence and off-campus residence. There is also a private residence available for those who want them.
The residence application is very simple and can be done through the UKZN Student Central web app. You should also check the residence application guide on the UKZN DSRA website.
UKZN application FAQs
This is where I will try as much as possible to answer all queries you might want to put out. Even if you don’t find answers to your questions here, you can simply put them in the comment box and I will reply as early as possible. Below are some of the common questions people ask about this topic and their answers.
How long does it take for UKZN to respond?
Per the experiences of the majority of students, it takes approximately six to eight weeks after the closing dates for UKZN to respond to your application. This is quite reasonable since the application will have to pass through a series of reviews. I know there are instances where the universities have to wait for Year 12 results to be published before processing applications.
So it is quite reasonable if the process delays for that long.
How do I know a have been accepted at UKZN?
Simply checking your application status from time to time will help you know if you have been accepted at UKZN. The application status checking procedure includes you logging into the CAO platform and authenticating with your password and username which you created during the application process.
You should also take a look at the whole UKZN application status checking above to know more.
