Sending sms in both Ghana and outside has never been cheaper. If you find yourself being charged more than you wanted to pay for an SMS, I have prepared a simple guide for you to follow in order to send SMS for free.
What You Should Know
Google has introduced something called “Chat feature“. This allows you to sync your mobile number with google just like you will do on WhatsApp.
After the number is in sync with the Chat feature turned on, your SMS to those who have their Chat feature turned on will not attract any airtime charges.
This means your SMS (text messages) will be sent over the internet instead of going directly through your airtime account. This feature also allows you to text photos and audio files all for free.
How To Activate Chat Feature
To enable chat feature, you must first make sure your SMS app is updated to the latest version.
Step 1. Open your SMS app and click on the menu icon. check screenshots below.
Step 2: Click on ‘Settings’.
Step 3: Click on General from the menu
step 4: Click on chat feature
Step 5: Turn the chat feature on
After turning on the feature, if you are asked to confirm number, just enter your mobile number and confirm.
Note: The SMS can only be sent or received using this feature if your data is on.
