Wits Library is a network of academic libraries for the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. The library serves as the major resource center for the students and it is also one of the top research libraries in the world.
The Wits library network consists of twelve libraries which are;
- Architecture library
- Library of management
- Wartenweiler library
- William Cullen library
- Health Sciences library
- Law library
- Historical Papers Archive
- GeoMaths library
- Engineering library
- Education library
- Commerce library
- BioPhy library
These libraries are dispersed on the campuses of the university to allow easy access to students.
While most academic libraries limit access to students only, Wits libraries are not. Most of the libraries give access to the entire community and scholars from outside to make use of the library materials.
Library Catalogue
All Wits libraries have their catalogs to help users get access to the materials they are looking for. There is an online catalog that allows users to easily find what they want with just a few taps or clicks.

Library Access
The library, since is an academic library has buildings on the campuses with the purpose of giving easy access to students.
The entire public can also get access to the materials by going to these physical library locations.
The library also has an online portal that is strictly for use only by students and staff. Unlike most online libraries, nobody can register out of their own free will.

Both students and staff have unique student or staff numbers. These numbers and a unique PIN are the essential parts of online access.
How To Get Wits Library PIN
The Student’s or Staff numbers are usually sent via email.
If you receive your number, the next thing is to go to the login page and generate your PIN.
For first-time users, during login you, you simply have to enter your Surname, enter your student or staff number and enter Six (6) secret numbers you would like to use as your PIN.
It is as simple as that.
If you ever forget your PIN, you can always go back to the login page and use the “Forgotten PIN” button to reset your PIN.
Wits Library Hours
Each of the twelve libraries operates differently in terms of working hours, rules, and regulations.
While the online resources are accessible all the time, the physical libraries are usually Open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM from Monday to Friday excluding Holidays.
