ScienceDirect: The Most Reliable Online Science Library

ScienceDirect is an online database of Scientific and Medical journals from Dutch publisher Elsevier. Simply put, it is an online Science and Engineering Library.

The contents of the website estimate about 18 million ebooks and journals. The websites have lots of ebooks dating as far back as 1997.

All the contents are in four categories which are;

  • Physical Sciences and Engineering
  • Life Sciences
  • Health Sciences
  • Social Sciences and Humanities

While some metadata of the contents are freely accessible by anyone anywhere, the rest are strictly subscription base.

How To Access ScienceDirect

The contents are accessible through the website address sciencedirect.com.

Anybody can get to the website, register, and subscribe to the content. But institutions including Universities subscribe to the entire database and incorporate it into their online library portals. This allows students to access the contents without a subscription.

It will be a very good idea to contact your institution to find out if it is accessible before you subscribe by yourself.

The publisher has built a reputation over the years for providing very good publications. The publications are peer-reviewed so everything that is on the website is reliable.

Basically, it is very reliable since it has been in business from 1997 till now with nobody actually complaining. Competitors always cook things up but trust me, it is very reliable.

Is Elsevier The Same As ScienceDirect?

The ScienceDirect platform is managed and operated by the Dutch Publisher Elsevier. That doesn’t make them the same thing.

But if you want to access the contents, then you can access them directly from ScienceDirect.com or through Elsevier.com.

Basically, ScienceDirect accounts can access files on Elsevier. You don’t have to create different accounts at all. All you will have to do is to use your email and password to log in.

There are other sources you can get Science Journals Including Z Library and JSTOR.
