Simplest AUT Application Process and Requirements

AUT application is open and anyone who wishes to study at the Auckland University of Technology can apply. The acceptance rate is 50% so you can easily get admission.

Auckland University of Technology (AUT)

Auckland University of Technology (AUT). Probably not the largest in the country because the University of Auckland already has that spot but it is the third-largest university in New Zealand. This is only in terms of the number of enrolments.

Even though it is one of the new colleges to be granted university status, it has worked hard to be number three. That is an achievement.

The University is not gaining respect from only people in New Zealand but in all other parts of the world. It, therefore, has nationals from over 140 countries applying in pursuit of quality education.

Now that we know about the reputation of the institution, let us proceed to the best part which also happens to be the major reason why you are on this page.

AUT Application

The first thing to know before filing your application is the application opening and closing date. Just like any other university, AUT applications open in January and close somewhere after September. Late applications are considered sometimes but it is always important to apply early. The earlier, the greater your chances of getting admission.

AUT Application Requirements

One important thing that will increase your chances of getting admission greatly is meeting the University Entrance (UE) minimum requirements. There are programme-specific requirements that you must meet as well.

If you are an international applicant, then you must also do well to meet the requirements for international applicants.

You don’t have to wait for long. I am going to list all the necessary requirements below so you can get a headstart.

The specific requirements we will be looking at are:

  • University Entrance (UE) for Undergraduates
  • Postgraduate entry requirements
  • English language requirements
  • International entry requirements
  • Australian applicants requirement

University Entrance (UE) for Undergraduate study

If you are applying to Undergraduate programmes, you must have at least one of these three high school certifications. National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA), Cambridge International Education (CIE), or International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB).

Based on which of them you have, check the subject credit requirements for each of them below.

NCEA

You need NCEA Level 3 consisting of 80 credits. At least 60 credits at level 3 and 20 credits at level 2 are also acceptable.

Subject credits: You will need 14 level 3 credits from each of the three approved subjects which will sum up to a total of 42 level 3 credits.

Numeracy: 10 level 1 or higher credits

Literacy: 10 level 2 or higher credits. Five credits for reading and five for writing.

These are the requirements if you are entering with NCEA.

CIE

AUT requires a minimum of 120 points on the UCAS Tariff at A or AS level from any approved subjects. At least three subjects at grade D excluding Thinking Skills.

Numeracy: The minimum requirement is a grade D in IGCSE mathematics. Any other mathematics subject at A or AS level is also acceptable.

Literacy: You will need a minimum of grade E, A or AS level in the English language or any other literature subject.

IB

IB diploma applicants need a minimum of 24 points. At least 11 points across three of their higher-level subjects.

Numeracy: Any mathematics subject – IB Group 5

Literature: Literature or language and literature (SL or HL) – IB Group 1, with English as the language.

AUT Application – Postgraduate Requirements

If you are applying for Postgraduate study, the Auckland University of Technology does not require much from you.

All you have to do is to prepare a research proposal and submit it. If you are transferring from another tertiary institution, you can easily transfer your programmes to AUT.

English Language Requirements.

Since all teachings are done mostly in English, you must meet some specific English Language requirements to enter AUT.

The Auckland University of Technology will assess your level of English to make sure you can succeed in your studies.

International students are also required to take English language tests. Regardless of University Entrance requirements, applicants must take IELTS tests and this can not be replaced with UE literacy.

In most cases, some programmes require higher IELTS credits than the University Entrance minimum literacy requirements.

AUT Application – International Entry Requirements

International applicants can enter the Auckland University of Technology with NCEA, CIE or IB certification. In fact, any similar higher certification that is internationally acceptable will be considered.

While this is just the basic requirement, there are other secondary requirements that you must meet in order to study at AUT.

The Auckland University of Technology sets the requirements based on which country you are coming from. Check the AUT country-specific requirements from their website.

There are countries that might not need additional requirements so check and be sure what is required of you before filing the application.

Australian Applicant Requirements

For Australian applicants, you need either a secondary school certificate, CIE or IB.

If you want to file your AUT application using an Australian secondary school certificate, then you must meet one of the following.

  • An ATAR rank of 69.6 or above
  • An OP rank of 14 or below

If you are applying using CIE or IB, then you simply have to meet the Undergraduate requirements as I have already explained above.

You should also do well to check the AUT country-specific requirements to make sure there is nothing more required of you.

Application Process

The AUT application is simple since it is completely online.

While it might sound easier, there are some key things you must prepare before filing your application. Apart from the device and internet connection, you will be using, there are a few things you must prepare as well.

  • You will need a soft copy of your educational certificate.
  • Soft copy of your ID card or Passport
  • You will also need a passport-size photograph of your face.
  • Prepare a fresh email address and phone number.
  • You will have to recollect your educational background information too. Prepare your student number if you had one in high school.

With all these in place, you are halfway through filing your application.

Allocate about 20 to 30 minutes for the application process.

Simply visit apply.aut.ac.nz and click on “Start application” to start filing your application.

AUT application

During the application process, you are going to create an account that will allow you to save your progress and return to it anytime you want. Make sure you don’t forget your email address and password.

Follow through the process to submit your application. You can always come back to the page and log in with your email address and password to also check your AUT application status.

AUT Application Fee and Tuition fee

There are no AUT application fees for domestic students. However, International applicants must pay a non-refundable enrolment fee of $150.

Tuition fees

For first-year study domestic students, there is the opportunity to study for free. This offer is for only the first year.

The tuition fee is not expensive since you will have to pay for only the courses that you study. Some of the courses might be more expensive than others but at the end of the day, the total tuition fee is what we are talking about.

Both domestic and international students have different fees. The same applies to Undergraduates and Postgraduates too. The amount you will pay completely depends on who is paying and what the person is studying.

AUT Accommodation Options

Where to live is one of the worries of most applicants. At Auckland University of Technology, there is enough accommodation for everyone.

The pricing for accommodation is very low compared to the benefits you will be enjoying. Gas, Electricity, WiFi and other utilities are all included in the rate.
